After giving such standout performances as an actor in movies such as Munna Bhai, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 idiots, Dunki. Actor Boman Irani is settling himself into the next phase of his career. He has surprised us as an upcoming director for his film, ‘The Mehta Boys’. This film is Boman Irani’s first film as a director.

The Mehta Boys will have its world premiere at the 15th Annual Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF).

The film also featured talented actors such as Avinash Tiwary known for his best work on films such as Laila Majnu, Madgaon Express, and Shreya Chaudhary known for The Family Man, Puja Sarup, and Boman Irani himself. 

The screening at the Chicago gala will take place in the inaugural, followed by a discussion with Irani, Dinelaris Jr., actors Avinash and Shreya Chaudhry, producer Danesh Irani, and executive producer Ankita Batra.

It is also to be noted that on September 21, Irani and Dinelaris Jr. will also teach a masterclass about The Mehta Boys’ writing process.

Story of Boman Irani Film ‘The Mehta Boys’

The story of Boman Irani’s first film as a director is about the complicated relationship between a father and son who are compelled to spend their next 48 hours together. The story looks promising and appealing, giving the perspective of a father and also a son. 

Having said this about the direction of Boman Irani. He not only directs but also co-writes the film, collaborating with Oscar-winning writer Alexander Dinelaris Jr., known for his work on the 2014 Oscar-winning film “Birdman.”

As Amazon Prime shared the poster and revealed the new upcoming film which will be premiered shortly this month.

Irani shared his excitement in the comment section. He wrote, “The only thing I did early in life was getting married…and having kids. The rest took its own sweet time. My directorial debut The Mehta Boys took not just a sweet, maybe even a sweeter amount of time. Life is a race” is a crock of bull, said by whoever the hell of an old irritating man that was. So, here we are, and when it finally happens, it shouldn’t be just sweet…it should be spectacular!!! This film may have taken years, but it has my heart thumping with joy and anticipation. A World Premiere! In Chicago!”

He added, “My family, my cast, my producers, and my friends are all going to be there to hold my happy hand for the biggest night since my wedding, the birth of my kids, my first appearance on stage, my first movie, my first award, my first autograph, my first… I can go on and on…which brings me to the realisation that I’m glad it took all this time. If you’ve read this far, thank you so much for enduring my childlike joy.

List of Indian films screened at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival

The Mehta Boys joins a list of famous films that have premiered at CSAFF, including Heroine, Margarita, With A Straw, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, and Masaan. 

Heroine (2012): Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, the film stars Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, and Randeep Hooda. The film received mixed reviews for its depiction of the ups and downs of a Bollywood actress’ life. It did not make a huge impact at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival.

Margarita, With A Straw (2014): Directed by Shonali Bose, the film stars Kalki Koechlin, Revathi, and Sayani Gupta. The movie received critical acclaim for its sensitive story of a woman with cerebral palsy exploring her sexuality. It was well-received at the Chicago Film Festival, winning appreciation for its storytelling and Kalki’s performance.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015): A Yashraj film directed by Sharat Katariya, the film stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar. It was praised for its unique storyline and extraordinary performances, especially Bhumi Pednekar’s debut role. The film received positive feedback at the Chicago Film Festival for its originality and charm.

Masaan (2015): Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, the film stars Richa Chadha, Vicky Kaushal, and Shweta Tripathi. “Masaan” garnered critical acclaim for its poignant narrative and strong performances.
