Stree 2 Review: A Horror Multiverse Unfolds as Shraddha Kapoor Returns in Stree 3

Stree 2 Review

Creating a good horror-comedy is tough, but the team of Stree 2 has done it flawlessly again. The sequel retains all the key features that were characteristic of the first part, such as the spirit of a humorous provincial city, bright characters, and the purity of the village people. Here I will take you through Stree 2 review.

Generally, sequels are not easy to make and it seems interesting here because while in the first part, Stree was the one who used to abduct men, in this part, it is a male antagonist, Sarkata, who kidnaps women. Since the characters have been introduced in earlier volumes, there is no time wasted, and the focus is immediately on the story, which progresses quickly. Also, all the actors give unforgettable acting, which makes the movie even more interesting.

The story of sequel movie ‘Stree 2’ begins where the first part ends with the new evil of Chandhari – ‘Sarkata’, a headless monster who starts to abduct modern women. It turns into a personal Drama when Bittu, the movie’s protagonist played by Aparshakti Khurana, finds out that his girlfriend, Chitti, is one of the victims of Sarkata.

The first picks up from where the first left – a letter reaches Rudra containing the missing pages of the Chanderi Puraan of Lal Kothi. With these hints, Bicky (Rajkummar Rao), Bittu, and Jana (Abhishek Banerjee) set out to apprehend Sarkata and put an end to his evil doings assisted by Shraddha Kapoor’s character, who, like in the previous movie, does not have a name.

Stree 2 Review : Movie Cast

Stree 2 Review

Rajkummar Rao reprises his role as Vicky, the endearing naive tailor who is always inadvertently entangled in supernatural shenanigans. As always, he cracks me up and I was still excited to see him being funny as a horror-comedy blend while I was amused because of the funny parts but at the same time, the horror parts were still a reality to me.

What I enjoyed about Rajkummar is that like in most horror-comedy, there are instances where he should be laughing, but he looks terrified. He anchors the film in a realistic way, and one can relate to him despite all the paranormal occurrences.

This is the second time Shraddha Kapoor as Stree and she has done great work. She has the mysterious and powerful persona that was established in the first film, but this time that aspect has even more weight in the story. It is obvious that she plays a more significant role in the main storyline, and she also seems to be more engaged in this expanding multiverse concept.

Pankaj Tripathi as Rudra is simply mind-blowing and he speaks every single dialogue flawlessly and looks hilarious as the crime reporter, a role that demands perfect comedic timing. His jokes and the usage of shuddh Hindi gave me the biggest giggles. He has the ability to bring comedy into some of the more action-based scenes making for a very good balance in the movie.

Vicky’s friends, Bittu, and Jana are played by Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee who bring emotions to the movie.

I liked how friendly these characters are and it appears more realistic due to the strong performances by the actors. Still, everything that happens around them is quite supernatural but the friendship and unity you see between them is very realistic, which makes you stay connected.

Multiverse in Stree 2: Varun Dhawan Steals the Show as Bhediya in Stree 2

Cameos seems to be the trend nowadays in Hindi cinema! May it be Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan’s onscreen reunion in Pathaan (2023) or SRK’s ‘seeti-maar’ appearance as scientist Mohan Bhargav in Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt’s Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva (2022).

Among the numerous cameo appearances this year, Varun Dhawan has stolen the show, entering as Bhediya in Stree 2. Well, as most of us are aware of now, Varun played the character of Bhaskar aka Bhediya from his recent movie. Varun jumps in to rescue Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao from Sarkata. Well, after making audiences roar with laughter, the upcoming Bhediya 2 now gives a thrilling hint.

Why Stree 2 is The All Time Blockbuster in Horror-Comedy

What really makes Stree 2 stand out, though, is how it blends horror with a deeper message. Unlike most films that are meant for enjoyment, this movie does more than just that; it challenges the mind. Sarkata is the new villain and represents regressive social attitudes. His portrayal as a man who transforms the men of Chanderi into believers of the old, oppressive ideologies shows just how socially acceptable these ideas are.

There’s a powerful moment in the film where Jana, portrayed by Abhishek Banerjee, which in a way gives the climax of the film: “Agar Sarkate ko abhi nahi roka, toh Chanderi 200 saal peechhe chali jayegi”. This line really struck a chord with me because it’s not just about the fictional village of Chanderi—it’s a warning about what could happen in real life if we don’t keep progressing as a society.

Looking Ahead to Stree 3 Movie Release

So, if you are still wondering whether there’s more to come then the answer is yes. Stree 2 ends where it proclaims the upcoming third film, which makes Shraddha Kapoor’s character, the Stree, even more of a focal point. Finally, the film raised the possibility of the connection with other characters of the universe of Maddock Films so the universe is bound to expand.

Apart from the simple humor that it makes, I am really looking forward to where they could go in Stree 3. It is just the beginning of this horror-comedy multiverse and there is limitless possibility of getting new characters, new stories which could leave new scars. If you’re a fan of the genre, then, you’d definitely want to know where this is headed.

Stree 2 Movie: Personal Opinion and Recommendation

If we talk about the overall of Stree 2 review, it is genuinely a film that provides you with everything, fear, laughter, and that sense of getting you thinking.

It bravely goes out into a bigger universe but it never forgets the essence of the first one. The cast is fantastic and leads Rajkummar Rao & Shraddha Kapoor & Pankaj Tripathi have given their best, and the narration is a blend of horror-comedy.

If you enjoyed the first Stree, then you will enjoy this one too. And if you are new to the series, I recommend watching both films in order to understand that they are being constructed to create a single whole.
