Emergency: Kangana Ranaut Took inspiration from William Shakespeare’s Macbeth
Kangana Ranaut shared her vision for the film, stating, “I am deeply inspired by William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The essence of Emergency is the destruction wrought when ambition goes unchecked by moral constraints. It is undoubtedly the most sensational chapter of Indian democracy and I am eagerly awaiting its worldwide release on 6th September 2024.”
In an interview with Variety, Ranaut drew a parallel between Indira Gandhi’s life and a Shakespearean tragedy. She commented, “Her life was such a Shakespearean tragedy. It’s not for us to judge or evaluate. It is what it is. When people see the film they will realize that it is such an honest take on the Emergency, what led to it, and what eventually came of it.”
To the viewer, Kangana Ranaut has previously described Emergency as an “ode to our prime minister,” emphasising the film’s portrayal of her life and political journey. She mentioned in an interview with Times Now Navbharat, “It is her life story, whatever good and bad she did. A woman is representative in her own right. But to already assume that I have favored a (political party), this is a wrong perception.”

Emergency: Grand Launch of Trailer with Special Dress Code
Following the trailer’s release by the actress and her film’s supporting cast. The gala launch was conducted with a particular dress code.

Kangana Ranaut opened up on working with Three Khans of Bollywood
During her interaction with the media, Kangana expressed a strong desire to work with all three Khans. “I would love to produce and direct a film with all three Khans. And I would also love to show their talented side of theirs, wherein they can act, and also look good. And they can also do something, which is very significant to society. I would like to make a film like that. Because I think they are all very talented,” she said. Kangana revealed a surprising fact about her favorite Khan.
Even though she often criticized Shah Rukh and Aamir, she spoke fondly of Irrfan Khan.
“What they are doing is… of course they are adding a lot of revenue to the film industry and we should be eternally grateful to them. Also, they are engaging with a mass of people, who need that kind of engagement. I think there is a very artistic side to all three of them, which has not been explored other than in just a few films. And I would love to explore that with (them) and so many other actors. One factor that I always regret not being able to direct is Irfan Khan saab (sir); he is one of my favorite Khans and I will always miss him,” she shared.
Kangana lamented missing the opportunity to direct Irrfan, admiring his versatile acting, after his passing in 2020.
