Pankaj Udhas died on February 26th at the Breach Candy Hospital. The singer was just 72 years old when he was suffering from an undisclosed illness.

The news was confirmed in a social media post by his daughter, Nayaab Udhas, on Monday. She wrote on Instagram, “With a heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness.”

Like his older brothers, the Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas was a talented vocalist. His older brother, Manhal Udhas, was a stage performer and trained vocalist who recognized his brother’s ability and provided him the opportunity to make his stage debut by singing the ‘Aye mere Watan ke logo’. The singer even got 51 rupees from one of his spectators who enjoyed his performance.

Pankaj Udhas Last Rites in Mumbai

The ghazal singer was put to rest on Tuesday in Mumbai following the completion of the last ceremonies with full state honours.

As part of the singer’s last ceremonies, the National Flag was wrapped over his mortal body. A band gave a tribute concert before the Pankaj Udhas set out on their last journey. The hearse was driven through the streets while decorated with white flowers. 

Actor Vidya Balan, former cricket player Sunil Gavaskar, musicians Shankar Mahadevan. Sonu Nigam, Ustad Zakir Hussain, and others showed up at the singer’s home to offer their final condolences.
